Newberg, Oregon wedding
What a serious treat to visit Newberg, Oregon for this intimate COVID wedding. I’m certainly not limited to working in California, in fact I have travelled to many places for work and love every minute of it: Utah, Oregon, New Hampshire, Vermont, Manitoba, Quebec—if I can have a reason to travel and write it off, you are doing me a favor. (I’m talking to you Winnipeg, MB—I have so many friends to visit!). So, when I was offered to shoot a wedding just outside Portland, OR, I jumped at the chance to get out of town. Due to COVID restrictions, their wedding had changed quite a bit through the planning stages but we stayed in touch every step of the way. I met Amanda and Ned at their Air BnB in Newberg, OR to catch them getting reading and stage some wedding details.
Guests and bridal party remained masked indoors and makeup took place outside. Although quite spacious, the Air Bnb only had one bathroom so Ned did a pretty damn good job using the kitchen sink to shave. From the rings, to the shoes, to the dress this wedding was glowing with hand-made accents. The rings were hand-forged by the couple, themselves while the bride’s shoes were hand-beaded and the dress handsewn by the bride, Amanda. The wedding ceremony took place at a large family property in Newberg, OR and all guests remained outside to ensure that this was a socially-distant wedding.
The couple took inspiration from one of their favorite films, The Princess Bride, and Amanda entered to the movie’s theme song. All wedding guests remained socially distant in their seating arrangements. Lately COVID weddings have presented a unique challenge for safe and distant family photos, but this huge lawn offered plenty of space for me to get creative with posing.
We took a quick drive back to the Air BnB to do couples portraits and then finished the evening back at the family property for dinner and wedding cake.
