Novato Ranch Engagement

I feel so lucky to have been to this incredible private ranch more than once! The first time I was actually a 2nd shooter for Dayna’s sister a few years ago. When they contacted me for engagement photos I was pumped to return. You may not realize that you can totally hire someone for engagement photos without being completely ready to hire that photographer for your wedding day. Sometimes, you just know, but I encourage you to think of them like a trial run for your wedding day. We all know about hair and make-up trials, and cake samples, but do you ever take time to think about a wedding photography trial? You know, the images you’ll cherish for years to come of one of the most important days of your life?! Yeah, those pictures. Sometimes it’s a chance to say “OK, those poses worked, these ones don’t” and it’s a great reference for the wedding day. Most of the time the couple is happy and everything is perfect. But every once in a while, a may realize it’s not a good fit (that actually hasn’t happened to me yet but I assume it could, LOL). We want you to fall in love with us, we want you to be confident and know that we’re a good fit. Damn, if I show up for a wedding and I feel like my client is still thinking “I’m pretty sure I made the right decision” that’s a tough spot!

From my end, in addition to building a relationship with you, it’s also an opportunity for me to build your confidence in me! I’m happy to say I’ll be returning once again to shoot the wedding and I seriously can’t wait. When it comes to photos and meeting your expectations, I’d much rather have a client be disappointed someone with some engagement photos that aren’t their style than blowing their entire wedding album…but let’s be real, I never disappoint, LOL!

Dayna’s father trucked us all over this 3,000+ acre private ranch and we took a little extra time to make sure we could cover all of the space that we wanted to. I absolutely loved that she had a couple wardrobe changes…yes, you can do that! Why decide between glamourous and casual— do both. These photos are about you as a couple, being in love and being yourself. Not all guys are comfortable in front of the camera but I’m pretty sure Daniel was loving it. As you can see I take a ton of photos during engagement sessions but having all that uninterrupted time with a couple really gets me all excited and creative so, deal with it. I like having this huge variety to pull from and there can never be to many photos of you and your partner being cute and in love. All of us had fantastic time touring the property and now it doesn’t just feel like a basic client-vendor relationship, I feel excited to be shooting wedding photos for friends :) We started off casual in the beginning and by the end we had a romantic sunset finish with a beautiful dress blowing in the wind. Can’t wait for this stunning wedding and all the dancing afterwards.
