Late May in San Francisco can go a lot of ways. Sometimes it’s sunny and warm. Sometimes Karl the Fog shows up and decides to stay awhile.
Sara and Chuck got the fog version.
It was grey, a little cold, and there was that classic San Francisco mist hanging in the air all day. The kind that makes the whole city feel cinematic. Not enough rain to send us indoors — just enough atmosphere to make everything look extra good in photos.
As a San Francisco wedding photographer, I’ll take that kind of light all day.

Getting Ready at Home (with a Very Curious Dog Audience)
Sara started the morning getting ready at home in San Francisco with her bridal party while makeup artists worked their magic and the dogs gathered nearby to supervise the entire situation.
Sara’s makeup was full old-school Hollywood glam and honestly… it held up unbelievably well. Flawless skin all day, all night, zero meltdown.
I was so impressed I went out and bought the same Dior foundation immediately after this wedding. No regrets.
Meanwhile my second photographer, Holly, headed to the Conservatory of Flowers to photograph Chuck and the groomsmen getting ready.

The Best Unexpected Getting Ready Light
The getting ready area at the Conservatory is this huge side wing space that clearly exists for events, not necessarily bridal prep.
But wow.
The light in there? Absolutely ridiculous.
Big windows, soft diffused light everywhere, tons of space. The kind of lighting situation where everyone looks good without trying too hard.
10/10. No notes.
After the guys wrapped up, Sara arrived to get into her dress before heading outside for their first look.

First Look in Golden Gate Park
Sara and Chuck had their first look on the lawn in Golden Gate Park, right outside the Conservatory of Flowers.
Fog in the distance, soft grey skies, that quiet park energy before the ceremony begins.
Afterward we wandered through the park for portraits and immediately stumbled into some peak San Francisco moments.
At one point a ballroom dance group was practicing on the lawn, spinning around like we had accidentally walked into a movie scene.
We finished portraits outside next to these big sculptural blocks that spelled LOVE, while a little girl stood nearby watching the whole thing like she had just discovered what weddings are.
She looked fully invested.
Then, because this is San Francisco, Where’s Waldo casually rode by on a bicycle.
You truly cannot plan this stuff.

Warming Up Inside the Conservatory
After being outside in the cool mist for a while, stepping into the Conservatory of Flowers felt amazing.
Warm, humid greenhouse air. Giant tropical plants. Soft window light bouncing everywhere.
A Ceremony Full of Big Reactions
One of my favorite things about Sara and Chuck’s ceremony was the energy from their people.
Everyone walking down the aisle had huge reactions — smiles, laughter, full emotional support vibes.
You could tell this was a crowd that was very ready to celebrate these two.
After the ceremony guests spilled out onto the lawn in Golden Gate Park, hugging the couple, playing lawn games, and exploring inside the Conservatory.
Inside the greenhouse guests could warm up, wander through the botanical displays, and even get their faces painted.
A face painter at a wedding is honestly underrated entertainment.

A Slightly Slippery Dance Floor Situation
Because we knocked out family photos earlier in the day, Sara and Chuck were able to jump straight into the party after the ceremony.
Speeches and first dances happened outside on the dance floor next to the Conservatory.
Which… had gotten a little wet from the mist.
There were a few slips during the first dances.
I’m 90% sure everyone was okay.
And honestly the crowd took it like champs.
At one point Sara and her parents broke into a full Hakuna Matata sing-along, which felt like the exact right energy for the night.
From there the live band took over, guests packed the dance floor, and colorful lights from the Conservatory lit up the whole scene.
It was joyful chaos in the best possible way.
Exactly the kind of wedding I love documenting.

Why the Conservatory of Flowers is One of the Coolest Wedding Venues in San Francisco

Basically it’s a photographer’s playground.
And if the fog shows up? Even better.
OK and yeah, I had to show off and include my own family photo of the Conservatory of Flowers…many years ago!
