This proposal with a view was an absolute dream for a Sonoma County Photographer! I am obsessed with romantic gestures and surprises so I was thrilled when Dominic reached out for me to photograph him proposing to his girlfriend at Bodega Head. A large majority of proposals I photograph are couples visiting Sonoma County from out-of-state, these two were no exception.
The key to any great proposal is to be prepared! Especially when working with a couple who is just visiting Sonoma County and isn’t as familiar with the area, it’s so important for me to location-scout the site so that it’s crystal clear where they need to be to pop the question. As a Sonoma County photographer, I know that some of the best locations along the Sonoma Coast have like, no reception so I want to make sure we have a plan before the reception cuts out.
I took a trip out to Bodega Head to take some video and after a check-in with Dominic, I actually went out again to dial it in. I don’t usually need to do that but, the wind was insane on my first visit and scrambling my brain and I wanted to come back on a calm day and check it out with fresh eyes. I made a quick video pointing out the location where he should propose and where I would lay in wait and we were ready for action.
Of course, everything went to plan, she said “yes,” and we spent the rest of the afternoon taking some stunning engagement photos at Bodega Head. Aside from being a joy to work with, I also received a really heartfelt thank you from Dominic’s father expressing his gratitude for expertly capturing this proposal in a way that still allowed him to experience it, even though he was miles away. Congrats to the newly engaged couple, don’t forget about me for wedding photos 😉
